QR Code Forever

App Store QR code generator

Make an app store QR code that sends people straight to your app's page on the App Store or Google Play, or to a download page of your own that lists both. The code is static, so it never expires and no redirect service sits in the way. It is free with no sign-up, made entirely in your browser, and verified by a real scanner before you download it.

Content: App link

One link per code: an App Store link, a Google Play link, or a page of yours that lists both.

Off by default. When on, each downloaded code (type, content, style) is saved in this browser only, never uploaded. You can delete them at any time.

How to make an App Store QR code

  1. Copy the link to your app. On the App Store, open the app's page and use Share, then Copy Link; the address looks like https://apps.apple.com/app/id123456789. On Google Play it is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yourcompany.app.
  2. Decide what one code should do: link to one store, or link to a page on your website that offers both stores. A single static code holds exactly one address.
  3. Paste the address into App link. Open it in a browser tab first to confirm it lands on the right app.
  4. Add your app icon with Upload logo if you want it in the centre; the generator raises Error correction to H so the icon can cover part of the pattern.
  5. Wait for the badge under the preview to read Verified, then choose Download PNG, Download SVG or Download PDF.

App Store QR code details

An app store QR code is a plain link code. For an iPhone app it holds something like https://apps.apple.com/app/id1234567890; for an Android app, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.example.app. The phone opens the link, and because both stores register their web addresses with the operating system, the store app opens directly on the install page rather than in a browser tab. The whole thing is about 40 to 60 characters, which makes a compact code of around 29 to 41 modules per side.

A static code cannot tell whether the phone scanning it is an iPhone or an Android phone. That decision needs a web server that receives the scan, reads the browser’s identity and redirects, which is exactly what dynamic QR services sell by subscription and switch off when you stop paying. This generator does not run a server, so it offers two honest options:

  • One code per store. Print an App Store code and a Google Play code side by side, each with its store name underneath. Simple, and every scan lands on an install page.
  • One code to a page you control. Make a short page on your own website, example.com/app, with both store buttons, and encode that. The printed code stays the same while the page gains a new store, a beta link or a promotion whenever you like. It costs nothing and it is the honest way to get a changeable destination.

App Store: on the app’s page in the App Store app, tap the share icon and choose Copy Link; on the web, copy the address, which includes a country segment such as /us/ that you can leave in or remove. Google Play: the link is always https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id= followed by the package name, which you can copy from the Play Console or from the store page’s address bar.

What a scan does on the wrong platform

An App Store link scanned on Android opens Apple’s web page for the app, which cannot install anything; a Google Play link on an iPhone does the same in reverse. That is why a two-store landing page is the better choice for mixed audiences.

Common mistakes

  • Encoding a search link such as the store’s search results page instead of the app’s own page.
  • Encoding a test or beta link, which stops working after the beta ends.
  • Copying a link with tracking parameters. They lengthen the code and often stop being valid. Keep the bare store address.

Drop the downloaded file into the QR code reader to confirm the link before it goes on packaging, and see the static versus dynamic explainer for what redirect services do and do not add.

This code never expires

The code holds your store link as plain text, so it keeps working for as long as the app is listed, with no redirect service that can lapse. This is a static QR code: the data is written into the pattern, so scanning it needs no server, no account and no subscription. There is nothing to renew and no redirect that can be switched off, which is why a code made here keeps working for as long as the printed copy exists. The trade-off is honest: a static code cannot be edited after printing and does not count scans. If you need either, encode a link to a page you control. Read how static and dynamic codes differ, and if a code you already have has stopped working, see why QR codes expire.

Styling, formats and print size

Every code can be styled in the Style panel: six dot shapes, corner shapes, solid or gradient colours, a transparent background, a quiet zone of 0–8 modules, and your own logo up to 30 percent of the width. A contrast checker warns below 3:1 and blocks downloads below 1.5:1, and after each change the preview is decoded again so the badge tells you whether the styled code still scans.

OutputBest forNotes
PNGWeb, documents, quick prints256 to 4096 px; transparent background supported
SVGDesigners and print shopsVector, scales without limit; logo embedded
PDFPrinting at an exact sizeVector modules at a chosen width in mm or inches, optional caption
JPGPlatforms that reject PNGWhite background; no transparency
EPSLegacy print workflowsVector from the module matrix, no logo
Copy / PrintPasting into a document; a quick paper testPNG to the clipboard; print view with caption

Print size: as a rule of thumb the code should be at least one tenth of the scanning distance wide, with the quiet zone included.

Scan distanceMinimum width
0.5 m (arm's length)5 cm
1 m10 cm
2 m20 cm
5 m50 cm

Store links are short, so the code stays small; 2.5 cm is enough on packaging and leaflets, and a poster read from a metre away needs about 10 cm.

The QR code size guide has a calculator for module size, DPI and distance.

Frequently asked questions

Does an app store QR code expire?

No. The code holds the store link as plain text and the phone opens it directly, with no shortener in between. It keeps working as long as the app is listed. If the app is removed from the store or its link changes, the code leads to the store's not-found page and you would need a new code.

Can one QR code open the App Store on iPhone and Google Play on Android?

Not a static one. Detecting the platform needs a redirect server, which is the paid, expiring part of dynamic QR services. A static code can do the same job if it points to a page on your own website that shows both store buttons; that page detects the phone or lets the person choose.

How do I find my App Store link?

Open the app's page in the App Store app, tap the share button and choose Copy Link. On a computer, search for the app at apps.apple.com and copy the address. Both give a link of the form apps.apple.com/app/id followed by the app's numeric ID, which never changes even if the app is renamed.

How do I find my Google Play link?

Every Play listing has the address play.google.com/store/apps/details?id= followed by the package name, for example com.example.app. Copy it from the browser bar on the store page, or from the Play Console. The package name is permanent, so the link stays valid across updates and renames.

Is a QR code for app download free here, and do I need an account?

It is free and there is no account. The code is generated and verified in your browser, nothing is uploaded, and every format including SVG and PDF downloads without a watermark. The only limit is the one that applies to every static code: the address is fixed once printed.

Can I put my app icon in the middle of the code?

Yes. Use Upload logo in the Style panel; the generator switches error correction to H so up to 30 percent of the code can be covered. Keep the icon to about a quarter of the width, leave White padding behind logo on, and check the Verified badge before downloading.

Does the code count installs or scans?

No. A static code has no way to report anything. If you need attribution, use a link to your own page and read that page's analytics, or use the campaign parameters your store console supports, keeping in mind that long parameters make a denser code.
