QR Code Forever

Instagram QR code for your profile

Make an Instagram QR code that opens your profile when someone scans it from a shop window, a product label or the back of a card. The code holds the plain profile link, so it is static, never expires and passes through no third-party server. It is free with no sign-up, made entirely in your browser, and verified by a real scanner before you download it.

Content: Instagram profile link

Your profile address is instagram.com/ followed by your username.

PNG, JPG or SVG up to 2 MB. It stays on your device.

Your codes on this device

Off by default. When on, each downloaded code (type, content, style) is saved in this browser only, never uploaded. You can delete them at any time.

How to make an Instagram QR code

  1. Find your username: it is shown at the top of your profile in the app, or in the address bar on the web. Your profile link is instagram.com/ followed by that username, for example instagram.com/yourcafe.
  2. Paste it into Instagram profile link and press Test link. It should open your profile in the browser or the app; a mistyped username shows Instagram's page-not-available message.
  3. Style it in the Style panel if you like: a Style preset, your Foreground colour, and your own logo or profile picture with Upload logo. Instagram's logo is not included; upload your own artwork.
  4. Wait for Verified: scans as URL, then Download PNG for packaging artwork or Download SVG for the print shop.

Instagram QR code details

The code encodes one address, https://instagram.com/yourname. A phone camera reads it, shows the link and opens it; Instagram then displays your profile in the browser or, if the app is installed, in the app. The username is the only variable, so the code is small: a typical profile link is around 32 bytes and fits a 29 × 29 module code at error correction M, which prints cleanly at 2 cm.

In the app, your username is the name at the top of your profile, without the @. On the web it is the last part of the address bar when you view your profile. Type it after instagram.com/ and paste the whole address into the field; the generator adds https:// if you leave it out. Press Test link and check that the page that opens is yours; underscores and dots in usernames are easy to mistype. If you later change your username, the old link stops working, so print a new code at the same time.

Where to use it

Product packaging and hang tags, where someone is already holding your product; the shop window, so passers-by can follow you after hours; the till or counter; business cards and thank-you notes inside online orders. On each, add a short caption such as ‘Follow us on Instagram’ next to the code.

Common mistakes

  • Using a display name instead of the username. The link needs the username with no spaces.
  • Pasting a link with tracking parameters. Strip anything after a question mark; the profile link needs none.
  • Inverting the colours. A white code on a dark label fails on many phones; keep dark modules on a light panel.
  • Tiny window prints. Read the size guide for shop-window sizes before you order the sticker.

This code never expires

The code stores your profile link as plain text, so it keeps working for as long as your username stays the same. This is a static QR code: the data is written into the pattern, so scanning it needs no server, no account and no subscription. There is nothing to renew and no redirect that can be switched off, which is why a code made here keeps working for as long as the printed copy exists. The trade-off is honest: a static code cannot be edited after printing and does not count scans. If you need either, encode a link to a page you control. Read how static and dynamic codes differ, and if a code you already have has stopped working, see why QR codes expire.

Styling, formats and print size

Every code can be styled in the Style panel: six dot shapes, corner shapes, solid or gradient colours, a transparent background, a quiet zone of 0–8 modules, and your own logo up to 30 percent of the width. A contrast checker warns below 3:1 and blocks downloads below 1.5:1, and after each change the preview is decoded again so the badge tells you whether the styled code still scans.

OutputBest forNotes
PNGWeb, documents, quick prints256 to 4096 px; transparent background supported
SVGDesigners and print shopsVector, scales without limit; logo embedded
PDFPrinting at an exact sizeVector modules at a chosen width in mm or inches, optional caption
JPGPlatforms that reject PNGWhite background; no transparency
EPSLegacy print workflowsVector from the module matrix, no logo
Copy / PrintPasting into a document; a quick paper testPNG to the clipboard; print view with caption

Print size: as a rule of thumb the code should be at least one tenth of the scanning distance wide, with the quiet zone included.

Scan distanceMinimum width
0.5 m (arm's length)5 cm
1 m10 cm
2 m20 cm
5 m50 cm

A code on a product label or card is scanned from 20–30 cm, so 2–3 cm is enough; a shop window read from the pavement needs 10 cm or more.

The QR code size guide has a calculator for module size, DPI and distance.

Frequently asked questions

Does an Instagram QR code expire?

No. The code contains the address instagram.com/yourname as plain text. Nothing is shortened, redirected or tracked, so there is no service that can switch it off. It only stops working if you change your username, in which case you generate a new code in a few seconds.

What is the difference from the QR code inside the Instagram app?

The app's own code is a profile link too, but it comes in Instagram's fixed style and as a screenshot. Here you get the same destination as a clean PNG, SVG or PDF in your colours, at print resolution, with your own logo and a verification pass. Either code opens the same profile.

Can I link to a post or a reel instead of the profile?

Yes. Open the post, choose Share and then Copy link, and paste that instead. Post links are longer than profile links, so the code gains a few rows of modules. Remember the link is fixed once printed: a profile link keeps working after you delete or archive the post.

Will it open the app or the browser?

The phone shows the link and opens it in the default browser; on most phones Instagram then hands off to the app if it is installed and signed in, otherwise the web profile appears. That is decided by the phone and Instagram, not by the code, and it works the same for any instagram.com link.

Can I add the Instagram logo in the middle?

The generator does not ship any platform logos, and Instagram's brand guidelines restrict how its glyph is used. Upload your own logo or profile picture instead; error correction switches to H and the badge confirms the code still scans. A caption such as 'Follow us on Instagram' does the job just as well.
