X profile QR code, formerly a Twitter QR code
Make an X profile QR code, what most people still call a Twitter QR code, that opens your account when scanned from a card, sticker or slide. The code holds the plain x.com address, so it is static, never expires and passes through no third-party server. It is free with no sign-up, made entirely in your browser, and verified by a real scanner before you download it.
Content: X profile link
Your profile address is x.com/ followed by your username.
Style
PNG, JPG or SVG up to 2 MB. It stays on your device.
Your codes on this device
Off by default. When on, each downloaded code (type, content, style) is saved in this browser only, never uploaded. You can delete them at any time.
How to make an X profile QR code
- Your profile address is x.com/ followed by your username without the @, for example x.com/yourname. The username is shown under your display name on your profile and in the address bar on the web.
- Paste it into X profile link and press Test link. If you have an old twitter.com link on file, it still redirects to x.com, but paste the x.com form so the code holds the current address.
- For a single post, open it, choose Share and then Copy link, and paste that instead; the address has the form x.com/yourname/status/ and a long number.
- Optionally choose a Style preset, set a Foreground colour or add your own logo with Upload logo; no platform logo is included.
- Wait for Verified: scans as URL, then Download PNG or Download SVG.
X profile QR code details
The code encodes one address, https://x.com/yourname. When a phone scans it, it shows the address and opens it; X then displays the profile in the app or the browser. A profile address is around 25 bytes, which fits a 25 × 25 or 29 × 29 module code at error correction M, so the code prints cleanly even at 2 cm.
twitter.com or x.com
Both addresses currently reach the same profile, because twitter.com redirects to x.com. A code you printed years ago with the old address still works for that reason. For anything you print now, use x.com: it is the actual destination, it is shorter by five characters, and it does not depend on the redirect being kept. If you paste a twitter.com link, the generator accepts it unchanged; nothing is rewritten, so what you paste is what the phone opens.
Profile or post
The profile link suits anything that stays in circulation: business cards, laptop stickers, slides, shop counters. A post link, x.com/yourname/status/ and a number, suits a campaign poster tied to one thread. If the post is later deleted, the code leads to an error page, so prefer the profile on permanent material and pin the post instead.
Common mistakes
- Typing the display name. The address needs the username, the part after the @, with no spaces.
- Copying a link with tracking parameters. Strip everything after a question mark.
- Light-on-dark styling. A white code on a black card fails on many phones; print a light panel with dark modules.
Read static vs dynamic QR codes if you are wondering why this code needs no account: the address is the whole payload, and nothing else is involved.
This code never expires
The code stores your x.com profile address as text, so it keeps working for as long as your username stays the same. This is a static QR code: the data is written into the pattern, so scanning it needs no server, no account and no subscription. There is nothing to renew and no redirect that can be switched off, which is why a code made here keeps working for as long as the printed copy exists. The trade-off is honest: a static code cannot be edited after printing and does not count scans. If you need either, encode a link to a page you control. Read how static and dynamic codes differ, and if a code you already have has stopped working, see why QR codes expire.
Styling, formats and print size
Every code can be styled in the Style panel: six dot shapes, corner shapes, solid or gradient colours, a transparent background, a quiet zone of 0–8 modules, and your own logo up to 30 percent of the width. A contrast checker warns below 3:1 and blocks downloads below 1.5:1, and after each change the preview is decoded again so the badge tells you whether the styled code still scans.
| Output | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PNG | Web, documents, quick prints | 256 to 4096 px; transparent background supported |
| SVG | Designers and print shops | Vector, scales without limit; logo embedded |
| Printing at an exact size | Vector modules at a chosen width in mm or inches, optional caption | |
| JPG | Platforms that reject PNG | White background; no transparency |
| EPS | Legacy print workflows | Vector from the module matrix, no logo |
| Copy / Print | Pasting into a document; a quick paper test | PNG to the clipboard; print view with caption |
Print size: as a rule of thumb the code should be at least one tenth of the scanning distance wide, with the quiet zone included.
| Scan distance | Minimum width |
|---|---|
| 0.5 m (arm's length) | 5 cm |
| 1 m | 10 cm |
| 2 m | 20 cm |
| 5 m | 50 cm |
Cards and stickers are scanned from 20–30 cm, so 2.5 cm is enough; a code on a slide needs to be large, about a tenth of the viewing distance.
The QR code size guide has a calculator for module size, DPI and distance.
Frequently asked questions
Does an X profile QR code expire?
No. The code contains x.com/yourname as plain text and the phone opens it directly. There is no shortener or redirect service that can lapse. It stops working only if you change your username, and then a new code takes a few seconds to make. Nothing needs renewing.
Do my old Twitter QR codes still work?
Codes that encode twitter.com/yourname still work at the time of writing because twitter.com redirects to x.com. That redirect is under the platform's control, so for anything you print now use the x.com address, which is the destination itself and does not depend on a redirect staying in place.
Can I link to one post instead of the profile?
Yes. Copy the post's link from its Share menu; it looks like x.com/yourname/status/ followed by a long number. That address is about 50 characters, so the code is a little larger than a profile code. The profile link is safer for long-lived print, because a deleted post leaves the code pointing at an error page.
Will it open the X app?
The phone opens the address in the browser, and on most phones X then hands over to the app if it is installed. Without the app, the web profile appears, though signed-out visitors may see a login prompt for some content. The code contains only the address; it cannot force the app to open.
Can I add the X logo?
The generator includes no platform logos, and the X brand guidelines restrict how the mark is altered. Upload your own profile picture or logo instead; error correction switches to H and the verification badge confirms the code still scans. A caption such as 'Follow us on X' next to the code is enough.
