QR Code Forever

SVG QR code generator

Use this SVG QR code generator when a designer or print shop needs a file that scales without blurring. The code is static, so it never expires and nothing routes through a server. It is free with no sign-up, made entirely in your browser, and verified by a real scanner before you download it.

Content: URL

The full address of the page. https:// is added if you leave it out.

PNG, JPG or SVG up to 2 MB. It stays on your device.

Your codes on this device

Off by default. When on, each downloaded code (type, content, style) is saved in this browser only, never uploaded. You can delete them at any time.

How to make an SVG QR code

  1. Paste the link into Website address. The generator adds https:// if you leave it out and warns about spaces.
  2. Pick a Style preset, or set Dot shape, Foreground colour and Background colour yourself. Every style option is drawn as vector paths in the SVG.
  3. Optionally Upload logo. It is embedded inside the SVG as a data URI, so the file stays self-contained.
  4. Wait for Verified: scans as URL, then click Download SVG. If you also need pixels, Download PNG exports the same design.

SVG QR code generator details

The SVG you download is the drawing you see in the preview, saved as vector paths instead of pixels. Every module is a shape with a fill colour, the three corner markers are separate paths, and a gradient becomes a linearGradient or radialGradient definition that the shapes reference. Nothing is rasterised, so a business-card code and a shop-window decal come from one file: set the size in the layout program and the edges stay sharp at any dimension.

What is inside the file

A viewBox sized to the module grid plus the quiet zone, a background rectangle (left out when Transparent background is on), the dot and corner paths, and, if you uploaded one, your logo as a base64 data URI. That embedding is why the file is self-contained: hand it to a printer and the logo travels with it. A plain 29 × 29 code is a few kilobytes; a logo adds roughly the size of the image you uploaded.

Opening and editing it

Illustrator, Inkscape, Affinity Designer and Figma open the SVG as editable objects; Word, PowerPoint and Google Docs place it too. If you recolour it, keep the result dark on a light background, and never delete, move or resize individual modules. After any edit, drop the exported file into the QR code reader to confirm it still decodes to the right address.

Where SVG falls short

Some older tools and a few label printers ignore gradients or handle the embedded logo badly, so the code may render as solid black or lose the logo. Solid colours are safe everywhere. In that case Download PNG at 2048 or 4096 px gives the same design as pixels, and Download PDF gives vector at a fixed physical size; the size guide says what width to ask for.

This code never expires

An SVG is a drawing of the code, and the drawing contains the full web address, so it keeps working for as long as the address does. This is a static QR code: the data is written into the pattern, so scanning it needs no server, no account and no subscription. There is nothing to renew and no redirect that can be switched off, which is why a code made here keeps working for as long as the printed copy exists. The trade-off is honest: a static code cannot be edited after printing and does not count scans. If you need either, encode a link to a page you control. Read how static and dynamic codes differ, and if a code you already have has stopped working, see why QR codes expire.

Styling, formats and print size

Every code can be styled in the Style panel: six dot shapes, corner shapes, solid or gradient colours, a transparent background, a quiet zone of 0–8 modules, and your own logo up to 30 percent of the width. A contrast checker warns below 3:1 and blocks downloads below 1.5:1, and after each change the preview is decoded again so the badge tells you whether the styled code still scans.

OutputBest forNotes
PNGWeb, documents, quick prints256 to 4096 px; transparent background supported
SVGDesigners and print shopsVector, scales without limit; logo embedded
PDFPrinting at an exact sizeVector modules at a chosen width in mm or inches, optional caption
JPGPlatforms that reject PNGWhite background; no transparency
EPSLegacy print workflowsVector from the module matrix, no logo
Copy / PrintPasting into a document; a quick paper testPNG to the clipboard; print view with caption

Print size: as a rule of thumb the code should be at least one tenth of the scanning distance wide, with the quiet zone included.

Scan distanceMinimum width
0.5 m (arm's length)5 cm
1 m10 cm
2 m20 cm
5 m50 cm

SVG has no pixel size, so any print size is possible; tell the print shop the width you want and keep the four-module quiet zone. For codes read from a metre away, ask for at least 10 cm.

The QR code size guide has a calculator for module size, DPI and distance.

Frequently asked questions

Does this SVG QR code generator add a watermark or expire the code?

No. The SVG holds the address you typed as a plain pattern of shapes, with no watermark, no redirect and no account behind it. It works for as long as the address exists, and because the file is built in your browser there is nothing to expire.

Can I open the SVG in Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma?

Yes. The file is standard SVG with a viewBox, plain paths and fill colours, so Illustrator, Inkscape, Affinity Designer and Figma open it as editable objects, and Word, PowerPoint and Google Docs place it directly. Resize it by dragging a corner; the modules stay crisp.

Does the logo stay inside the SVG file?

It does. The logo you upload is written into the SVG as a base64 data URI inside an image element, so the file has no external links and a printer receives everything in one file. The embedding happens on your device; the logo is never uploaded.

How big is an SVG QR code file?

A plain 25 × 25 or 29 × 29 code is a few kilobytes, because each module is one small path; rounded and classy shapes add a little. A logo adds roughly the size of the image you uploaded, so a 200 KB PNG logo makes an SVG of about 270 KB.

Why does my SVG look different in another program?

A few older tools and some label-printer drivers ignore gradients or the embedded image, so the code may appear solid black or lose its logo. Solid colours render everywhere. If a client's software misbehaves, download the PNG at 2048 or 4096 px instead.

When should I choose SVG over PNG or PDF?

Choose SVG when someone will place the code in a design tool or one file must serve many sizes. Choose PDF when the code must print at an exact physical size on its own page. Choose PNG for websites, email, slides and tools that cannot open vector files.
